Friday October 1, 2010 Part 1
We have so many pictures from our trip...Brian's such a good photographer! Friday was a really busy day so I decided it might be easier to break up the day into two posts. More reason to come back, right?
We woke up Friday ready to explore. Here's some shots of the area near our hotel. The streets are crazy in SF. Lots of hills!
We definitely wanted some fuel before we took to the streets (remember, no car). We went to Lori's Diner. It's a cute place with yummy food!
I ordered a cheese omlet with hashbrowns and a whole wheat English muffin.
Brian ordered French Toast! It was a little strange because I usually go for the starchy breakfast (pancakes, waffles, french toast) and Brian is usually more protein oriented. Both breakfasts were delicious and just what we needed!
We stopped in Union Square which is a really cool place. As you can see in the background there was art on display. It was fun wandering and looking at all the great photos and paintings of the San Francisco area done by local artists.
We then walked towards our destination. We were ready to ride the Cable Cars! We went to the start of where the line is so we could buy tickets. The tickets were a little confusing. We were trying to figure out what kind of ticket we wanted (daily or 3 day). As we were talking about it and determining what the best deal was, this sketchy man came over and asked if we were looking for tickets. He proceeded to tell us that he was in possession of 4 monthly tickets and that he would sell them to us for half of what we were going to pay. He told us that it was the September pass and that there was a 3 day "grace period" and that the pass would technically be good until October 3rd. He handed me one of the tickets and told me that I could go ask the ticket window. So, I did. And turns out he was right! We bought 2 tickets for $20 instead of 2 for $40.
Afterwards, Brian told me that he bet the guy just picks the tickets off the ground because maybe others aren't aware of the "grace period" and he gets free money! Well, whatever works I guess! Ha ha. We were happy about saving money!
Here's where the Cable Cars do their little turn around. Brian got it on video. We waited in line for about 20 minutes to get on the car to take a ride up North!
Here's Brian on the Cable Car.
And here I am too!
Here's a little sneak peak of Lombard Street. Don't worry, there will be more of that on another post! This was the view from the Cable Car.
We reached our destination at the other end of the line. All the passangers got off the car and we took a couple of quick photos with the car.
We then arrived at the Hyde Street pier. Brian made a new friend!
Here I am as we're about ready to explore the pier. There were lots of ships and boats to explore for a small fee. We decided just to look from the dock.
Here's a view of the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.
We continued to walk on the street along the water and we came across some other great places!
Here I am with the sign at Fisherman's Wharf.
There were lots of vendors selling seafood, raw and cooked. It sure did smell! Ha ha.
We kept going and ran into Pier 39!
This is such a fun place! There are tons of shops and eateries. We did lots of exploring!
There was a strange big noodle...not sure exactly what it meant...
And also a large stuffed lobster!
As we walked around the pier we rounded a corner and found, these guys!
The Sea Lions!
So, there were lots of pictures to choose from, which is not unexpected. Brian loves any sort of animal. He will take millions of pictures! He also took some video which is great, cause then you get to hear them. Sorry, there was no way to put their smell on the blog. I would have loved to share that with you all too! :)
His guy was huge! Too bad you can't see his face!
Here's a view from the upstairs part of the pier! There were quite a few out sun bathing!
After hanging out with the sea lions, we decided it was time for lunch! We definitely wanted to sample some seafood! I ordered the popcorn shrimp! Yum!
Brian got the fired calamari and chips! I was all about stealing some chips, but not the calamari! No thank you!
Here's a cute video that Brian took before we partook of our delicious lunch!
So, we did share a little bit with the dumb birds. We were full and didn't want to completely waste what was left.
So, there's lots more of the day left, so come back soon!
