Honeymoon Part 4

Thursday June 10, 2010

So, we got up early and headed to the airport to take a short flight to the island of OAHU!  When we landed we picked up our rental car as seen below.

We did have a car in Kona, but we didn't get a picture of it.  After the car we went to the hotel (Ohana Waikiki West) for early check in.  We were starving and wanted some breakfast.  When we got to the hotel they said they had a room available on the 18th floor and explained how we needed to get to the room.  The elevator only went to the 17th floor so we were going to have to climb a flight of stairs as well.  We said, sure let's have the room.  We videoed our entrance to the room.  Enjoy!

As you can see the room was great!  The room itself was not nearly as spacious as our room in Kona, but our balcony was phenomenal!  After getting settled in I demanded a Loco Moco for breakfast.  I wanted one of my own, so we walked a short distance and went to a place called Big Kahuna and both Brian and I got a Loco Moco!  Brian tried it with shreded pork instead of ground beef and determined that it was better with the beef.

After stuffing ourselves we relaxed in our room for a short bit and then decided it was time to finally hit the beach and swim in the ocean!  Here are some pictures from Waikiki Beach.

We had such a good time swimming, and relaxing on the beach!  We then decided to explore a little.  Here's what we found.

Here's Brian with the legendary Duke!

Oh and we found some shaved ice again!  Yippee!  Aren't they huge!  I had Strawberry, Passion Fruit snow-capped and Brian had Banana, Pineapple, Coconut with a snow-cap.  That just means they poured some cream on top.  It's really yummy that way!
Ha ha.

We then decided it was time to do a photo shoot on our balcony.

We loved the view!  So incredible!

We then cleaned up and got ready to explore the International Marketplace.  It was directly across the street from our hotel.  Anyone who has been to Waikiki knows about the Marketplace.  It's full of vendors who sell souvenirs to the tourists.  We wandered around there for quite a bit and then realized that it was late (almost 10) and we wanted some dinner.  We ended up going to a place right there in the Marketplace called Puka Dog.  It was a hot dog place, but they didn't served just your regular dog.  They sold Hawaiian hot dogs.  The first take bread and spear it onto a vertical cone to toast it, which we thought was really cool.  They then add the dog along with a choice of different mustard's, tropical relish, and tropical sauces.  Brian got a regular hot dog with spicy mustard, pineapple relish, and guava sauce.  I got a veggie hot dog (because I won't eat pork hot dogs...pork disgusts me) with spicy mustard, mango relish, and loki sauce.  These Puke Dogs were really good (although I would have preferred a beef dog over the veggie on).  Here's Brian with his:

We ate them on our balcony!  It was a great way to end our first day in Oahu!
