We woke up to a beautiful morning in Waikiki and decided to try out a little pastry shop for breakfast. We loaded up with some yummy treats and headed back to our balcony.
We then got ready and headed out to the Dole Pineapple Plantation. It was about a 30-45 minute drive. Once we got there, there was tons to do. We started off with a ride on the Pineapple Express train.
It was a 20 minute train ride that took you through tons of pineapple fields and there was a recording that told you all about the Dole plantation.
After the train ride we headed to the walking Garden Tour. There were beautiful plants.
I was pointing at some green bananas. :)
I think we are so cute! He he
There was also a pond of fish. You could buy some food for a quarter to feed the fish. There were tons of kids there, so we didn't do that, but Brian had to get a picture cause there were so many fishies.
By this time, it was pretty hot outside and Brian and I decided it was time for something cold. I also like to call this the reason for going to the Dole Plantation. It's DOLE WHIP! Seriously, the best thing ever! I love love love it.
We thoroughly enjoyed it. And once we had about finished we decided it was time to attempt the world's largest maze.
This maze was quite intense. There was a board showing the fastest time clocked in this maze hitting all 12 or 13 stamp stations was 14 minutes. Brian thought we should attempt to beat that record, but after just a few minutes in we knew we were doomed. It was hard and we didn't really finish because it was just so hot outside, but it did make for some good entertainment.
After the Dole Plantation we decided to head towards the North Shore. We stopped for some lunch at a place neither of us can remember and we didn't take any pictures. But we ate burgers and fries, which were great. We then made our way to Haleiwa Park Beach.
Over by the bathrooms where we changed we happened upon some new friends
Now, Brian loves any sort of animal (or reptile in this case) and we went a little crazy with the picture taking. I'm only going to show a few.
They were really fun to watch swim around.
After watching them for some time we went to a better area for us to enjoy. We swam in much calmer waters, but it was another beautiful day at the beach!
We headed back to Waikiki and met up with the Alexander's. April Alexander is one of my close friends from high school who lives out in Hawaii with her husband and son. Well, she doesn't live there now, but did back in June. Ha ha. We ate dinner at the Wilana Coffee House. For some reason we didn't take a picture, which makes me really sad, but here's a picture of her family so you know who I'm talking about.
Yes, I stole this picture from April's facebook. Hope that's okay...
After dinner we decided to walk to the Hilton hotel across the street to see the fireworks, and we missed them by the time we got to where they were. We just wandered around the little lagoon they had there and said good bye. It was so great to visit with them! I miss April lots.
Brian and I went back to our hotel and when we went out on our balcony we could hear some noise that sounded like a concert from the street behind the International Marketplace so we decided to check it out. When we got to that block it was completely shut off to traffic for the Pan American Street Festival. It was crazy, but we walked along and came across some cool stuff.
This is a blurry picture of Hawaii's version of the Backstreet Boys! They were funny!
There were also lots of food vendors selling stuff. We were sad that we had already had dinner, but Brian came across something he had to try.
It's a waffle dog! What's with Hawaii and the different ways to eat hot dogs? He said it was good!
After spending some time at the festival we headed to bed. It had been a long but fun day exploring Oahu more.
